Last week, while visiting a local hobby store to pickup some white paint primer with my brother, we saw a shelf of Privateer Press Warmachines.
We used to shop for our miniature stuff at a Games Workshop store which obviously only had GW stuff so we’ve never actually seen any miniatures from other companies.
I heard some good things about Privateer Press online recently so we decided to check the Warmachine stuff out more closely.
We ended up having a chat with the store owner and he gave us a basic explanation of the differences between Warhammer 40k and Warmachine.
Prior to that I was a bit skeptical about getting into another line of miniatures since I love my GW stuff, but after he explained the differences to us I really wanted to try out Warmachine.
Some of the benefits about Warmachine that he pointed out is that it’s easier and less expensive to get into Warmachine since a typical battlegroup box costs around $50 as opposed to a typical WH40k battlebox costing about double that.
Of course with Warhammer 40k, you’re getting a lot more miniatures for that price, but in terms of being able to play the game Warmachine has a lower entry point.
The idea that Warmachine is easier to get started with and that it’s more of a skirmish type game versus Warhammer 40k being more larger scale appealed to me very much. That’s not to say that I don’t want to play more larger scale Warhammer 40k style games – it’s just that I want both! 🙂
With a battlegroup costing only about $50 to get started, I figured why not give it a try. So a couple days later, after doing a bit of initial research as to which army I wanted to build, I went back and picked up a Khador Battlegroup.
In this video I do an unboxing of the set. Once I get it built and painted, I’m going to try playing the game to see if I like it. If I do, I’ll probably collect a much bigger army of Khador models.

Are you a Khador player as well? I’d love to hear your comments on the army and how you’re enjoying playing them.
Or are you trying to decide which army to build?
If so, which other armies are you looking at?
